 2016 Preview

Sumter Central finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Sumter Central finished sixth in Class 5A region four with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Jaguars have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

Sumter Central was inconsistent offensively last year and that needs to pick up if the Jaguars want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.7 points a game.

The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-16 record.

Sumter Central is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only five seasons. They have managed a record of 10-40 over the past five years.

The Jaguars are led by head coach Charles Graves who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Sumter Central. The Jaguars saw improvement from a 1-8 record the season before coach Graves arrived. The Jaguars have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Graves.

Coach Graves' overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 10-30 (25.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Graves' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

The Sumter Central Jaguars will play in Class 5A region three during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Jaguars remain in 5A but move from region four over to region three.

It will be an uphill battle for the Jaguars if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just 2 wins last year, Sumter Central will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Jaguars open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Carver Birmingham on Friday, August 19 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Carver Birmingham Rams finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in sixth place in Class 5A region five. The Rams ended last season on a positive note with a win over Jackson-Olin by a score of 18-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Sumter Central and Carver Birmingham have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-2-0 record against the Rams. They last met in with
